More isn’t always better

If I just knew how to code…

There’s always a slew of things that keep you ONE step away from that grand success. Maybe if you JUST knew how to code – not even substantial stuff, but JUST a little HTML. Or CSS. To make things easier, to have to avoid hiring someone to do it for you, to avoid asking for help.

Honestly? What the hell. When did it become expected for us to be able to do everything? And that the true measure of success is having the luxury of deciding you want to hand off a task. That badge of honor of being able to say “Well yes, I totally COULD, but I’m choosing not to.” While at the same time, a lot of good leadership material is stressing that you build a team around you whose strengths fill in your own gaps.

Am I “guilty” of this myself? Totally. Honestly it was the hallmark of my corporate marketing career. And it was exhausting. Can knowing a little bit of HTML and CSS actually help? Sure, if you’re the type of person who likes to dig in a bit and solve problems like that. But it’s not some secret magic that will unlock the next level of your success.
